Consultation
Focused Guidance Without Ongoing Therapy
Sometimes families or professionals need the perspective of a psychologist without beginning an ongoing course of therapy.
Consultation provides a focused opportunity to discuss a specific concern, better understand what may be contributing to a child’s difficulties, and develop practical next steps. Depending on the situation, consultation may involve a single meeting or a small number of sessions centered on a clearly defined question or goal.
Parent Consultation
Parents may seek consultation when they are concerned about a child’s behavior, emotions, development, school functioning, relationships, or adjustment but aren’t sure what kind of support is needed.
Consultation can help parents better understand what they are seeing, think through possible next steps, and identify strategies that may be useful at home or in other settings.
It can also be helpful when parents are deciding whether their child may benefit from therapy, psychological assessment, school-based support, or another type of service.
Professional Consultation
I provide consultation to professionals who work with children and families and would benefit from a pediatric psychologist’s perspective on a clinical, developmental, behavioral, or systems-related question.
Consultation may include case conceptualization, diagnostic questions, treatment planning, behavioral strategies, coordination of care, or discussion of when additional assessment or services may be appropriate.
Training & Organizational Consultation
Consultation may also be available for schools, healthcare organizations, community programs, and other groups serving children and families.
Topics can be tailored to the needs of the organization and may include child development, behavioral health, psychological assessment, parent engagement, integrated care, or other areas related to pediatric psychology.
